The USS Whatitsname

My spaceship designer, Adam Kopala, has been busy. Here's another one he's made for me that I haven't named yet.

In other news, I'm working on a new military SciFi trilogy. No, I'm not dropping Pax Humana--I just found that I needed to work on something fresh in between episodes, so I decided to start another trilogy to keep my sanity. Book 4 of Pax Humana will be finished shortly enough, but first you'll get something a little different. And even more awesome.

  1. Hi Mr. Webb,

I read all 3 books from your Pax Humana series and really liked every one of them. Can't wait for the fourth one (I hope it will come out soon).

Nice design from Mr. Kopala. Is it an atmosphere fighter? If not, why the wings? In space they are just a waste of resources, resources that can be used to better protect critical components as reactors engines, etc.

There is nothing wrong with slick spaceships. My point is that this ship looks more to be used in atmosphere than in space (or both) but by the suggested size, it is too big to land on a planet.

In space aerodynamics doesn't count but mass do. Another comment I can make is that the engines don't look powerful enough to displace such a ship in any considerable STL speed and Mr. Kopala did not include the maneuvering thrusters and weapons systems. I don't know what the circle near the engines exhaustion is but if it has no application I doubt an engineer would waste resources building it but if it has an application, the concept is wrong, even in cold space the temperatures near the engines exhaustion chambers would fry the hull and compromise any component nearby.

In Sci-fi we can always go further and imagine gravity nullifiers and/or generators and engines that displace a spaceship without the need of thrusters but if you add engines thrusters in the aft of a ship, thrusters for maneuvering the ship are necessary, and in this case all laws we know about displacement in space are applicable.

If this ship is a warship (which I think it is) depending on its class (except for a fighter), it has too little space for weapons emplacement, and the design forbids a good defense of the aft (the most critical section).

In my opinion it's a real nice concept but I doubt that it's practical even in a sci-fi scenario.

After reading your comments in your Amazon's forum, I have some other comments about the design:

How does the ship can "Yaw", "Pitch" or "Roll" in an atmospheric flight without the proper resources?

I'm not talking about the ship have a rudder. (B2 bombers doesn't have one). but flaps are needed.

Another point is: B2 bombers use their engines to help yaw, even if they are too close to the center. This design won't let it be possible because the engines are in the center of the ship.

All my comments can be irrelevant if you decide to change it's propulsion to something Sci-fi, like gravity nullifiers.

  2. The spacecraft looks like the Nemesis, flagship of deceptions or maybe Colonial Viper depending on the context of the story... Sword Breaker, Hyperion or maybe The Mimbari victory class destroyer from Babylon 5..or not😱

  3. I think Mr Webb forgot about us.

  4. I would suggest the USS SANDLANCE If you look at the shape of the fish the Sandlance you will understand. It is also the name of a submarine that was in service to our country (SSN-660) a 637 class fast attack.

  5. All the books are great I can't wait for the next one.
Hans it's scifi not true life.
Tom if you want sub names lets go with SSN Trepang 674 this was one of my ships and it has a nice ring to it.
