About Me

Hey there! I'm Endi Webb. Writer, husband to one, daddy to two, and scientist to ... all?

I've read fantasy and science fiction since I was a kid, starting with The Chronicles of Narnia. My dad always had Star Trek on tv, so I grew up loving the original series and the next generation, and expanded my love of nerdy sci-fi by reading all the Star Trek and Star Wars books. I rounded out my diet with a bit of Ursula Le Guin, a tad of Tolkien and a splash of Azimov.

All that Star Trek so early in life did things to my brain. Crazy things. I ended up wanting to be a scientist. I asked my brother, “What career do I have to go into to build the Enterprise?" and he told me Astrophysics. As it turns out, Astrophysics would be a great thing to study while aboard the Enterprise, but to build it you'd need a solid degree in Physics or Aerospace Engineering, so I went off and got a Ph.D. in Physics and now work for a Nasa contractor trying to design new spacey-age materials that might one day go into the Enterprise.

All this science is fun and all, but for years now I've felt the call to write books. Space books. Fantasy books. Robot books. Reading my favorites while growing up, I always thought, “But I would have done it this way," or “why don't they write about that?" until finally I realized that writing a book couldn't be too much harder than writing a doctoral dissertation in physics, and I went for it.

Wow, was I wrong! I wrote the first book of The Rohvim series, Metal and Flesh, in a single month. I sat down and said, “Ok, Endi, you can't get up until you've written 2000 words. Every day." Well I got those 2000 words in, and once the words start flowing they can be hard to stop—some days I racked up well over 3000. One day I hit 10,000. That day was glorious. It took me awhile to edit it (with substantial help from my amazing editor wife), given that it was my first book and I had to get rid of all the extra dialogue tags a newbie author tends to overuse.

And it was still awful.
So I rewrote it, and now it's pretty good. I even enjoy rereading it.

I had the idea for The Maskmaker's Apprentice from one of the early Star Trek novels by John Vornholt. I was fascinated by the idea of a society based on masks, where you mask determined your role in society. Except in my world, the mask actually gave you power and knowledge, for it had the accumulated cultural knowledge of all who bore it previously. It was very fun to write and I hope to put out more installments in Elu's world by the end of 2014.

I've also just finished the first second book in a fun little Space Opera. It's a rip-roaring mixture of Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, and a few others. Expect about 4-5 books out this year, followed by a handful next year, with a healthy salting of short stories set in the same universe.

I hope you enjoy all the books! If you haven't already, sign up for the newsletter to know when the next book comes out.

Regards,
Endi

  5. :)
Aren't we readers all the same?
When we find a great author, we all selfishly say "When's the next book?"
Before I, too, ask, let me also preface the inevitable by saying I've bought all of yours I can find, in all the sagas/threads/series/sets, and find I'm hooked by your themes and style: great stuff, Endi. Keep up the good work! And .... thanks much!
    Now...
    when's the next in ....? ;)
Seriously, I don't expect an answer, as I suspect you'll get to each in it's own time, as the muse/mood/impulse/publisher strikes.
    Thanks again!
